Zech 7:1–3

7:1
In King Darius’ fourth year, on the fourth day of Kislev, the ninth month,
the Lord’s message came to Zechariah.
2
Now the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melech and their
companions to seek the Lord’s favour
3
by asking both the priests of the temple of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies
and the prophets, “Should we weep in the fifth month, fasting as we have
done over the years?”

One thought:

There are different seasons in life. Times of rejoicing and times of mourning and sometimes in-between.

Three questions:

Why might the people of Bethel think that it is still a time of mourning?

Have you mourned the consequences of sin recently?

Reflect on the sad realities of life, suffering and death and bring your mourning to God.

Prayer:

Praise God that mourning has turned to rejoicing in Jesus Christ and His victory over sin and death. Give thanks that even as you mourn, you can have joy because God is with you in Christ. Ask God to help you +others weep with those who weep but also rejoice because your name is written in heaven.
