Matt 3:10–12

10 The axe is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

One thought:

Jesus is the axe who comes to divide between wheat and chaff

Three questions:

What does it mean that Jesus will baptise with the Holy Spirit? Check out – https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/essay/baptism-indwelling-spirit/

Feel the weight of what it means to be against Christ (the ‘chaff).

Spend some time reflecting on the reality of hell and what it means for you/people around you

Prayer:

Praise God for His grace in sending John, His Son and His Spirit to warn humanity of the consequences of rebellion. Give thanks that Jesus has sent the Spirit of God to change our hearts and make us His forever. Ask God to be at work in the hearts of others to change them and bring them to repentance.
